The neutrals rule this fall/winter collections. All shades of noble gray, elegant beige, and deep rich brown, speckled with bright pops of autumn colors: golden mustard, intense caramel, burnt orange and flaming red. The secret of creating hip boys’ outfits is in artful layering of shades and textures and choosing the right accessories. “Use the accessory wall wisely” as style guru Tim Gunn of Project Runway has been advising for years. French had mastered the art of bridging casual and dressing aesthetics effortlessly, creating hip yet elegant boys’ ensembles with calm, neutral palette; fabulous accessories and footwear; great fit; innovative yet subtle finishes and details, like “barely there” prints on the wool sweaters and arresting patterns in moderation. |
Crewcuts, also transformed by the magic touch of an Incredible Jenna Lyons, the creative genius behind the style revolution that catapulted boring bastion of preppyness, J Crew into the realm of trendsetters, is the line whose aesthetics are the closest to these of Bon Point. Having labeled crewcuts’ clothes as the overpriced prepster’s essentials a couple of years ago (pre-Jenna era) I am eating my words today. Unfortunately, this American spin on the European casual chic comes with a quite hefty price tag. Luckily, there is a year-round Sale section on J.Crew’s website and extra 30% OFF the final sale is going on right now as we speak (use code MUSTHAVE at checkout). The high quality and the timeless design of crewcuts’ cardigans, jackets and sweaters make them an excellent hand-dawn material.
Last time we styled Bonpoint Looks for less, HTG81 made quite a splash, contributing the overwhelming majority of pieces for the budget-sensitive ensembles. This time, however HTG81’s selection was unusually scarce. Hopefully, the collections’ changing was a culprit. Zara Kids would definitely be an ultimate purveyor of the affordable casual chic with the European flair. GAP, Gymboree, Janie & Jack, Land’s End, 77kids, Pumpkin Patch all contributed pieces to this7 days' style fest.
